I like adventures, and I like to try new things. I want my kids to have lots of unique experiences, and try everything at least once. Even if they don't end up falling in love with it, I want them to be able to say they tried it.
My kids tend to be a little more timid when it comes to things like heights, water, and rides.
When I saw the opportunity to go to Funtopia Utah, I jumped at the chance. Haven't heard of it? Neither had I until I saw it on the news {click on that link, watch Casey Scott do the slide and picture my face}, and I am so glad we were able to experience it.
Funtopia Utah is a place with 26 different themed climbing elements, you are sure to find something you love doing. We didn't know what we were doing, and the employees were so helpful and patient. Honestly, Tanner made our experience what it was, and I was so thankful for him.
My kids were totally hyped up to climb, and then they got 2 feet off the ground and were terrified {there were tears!}. I hooked up to a wall, acted like my legs weren't shaking, and scaled that wall. I got to the top, and I am not gonna lie...I did not think that rope was going to catch me when I let go. It did, I am here to tell about it. Phew! See kids, so fun! Now stop crying and start trying!
Tanner was so good at encouraging and helping Savannah and Devin. I admit, I lack patience when I see my kids just give up. We all learned some valuable lessons in that hour at Funtopia Utah. Instead of getting lots of amazing pictures of my kids conquering walls, we worked hard on setting goals for going a little higher each time.
We may have found a new hobby for Devin, he has asked numerous times the past week when he gets to go back. If you have an adventurous kid(s), this is right up your alley! It is such a fun way to stay active. Try it, and tell me what your kids think!

Devin has been asking for close to 2 years to go to the "skate park" aka Classic Skating. It is all he really wanted to do for his 5th birthday party. His excitement was contagious, and he really did have a little sparkle in his eyes all day.
We reserved a table, ordered pizza, got unlimited soda refills, ice cream, cupcakes, a giant card for everyone to sign, tokens, skating, free bull ride, yada, yada, yada. Totally worth the money!
Devin got to request a song for the DJ to play, and a shout out that it was his birthday. When I asked him what song he wanted played, he said "Mom, I want something from Annie!" Yeah, that is my sweet kid. They didn't have the Annie soundtrack. I know, I am shocked too. hahaha. He went with something a little more popular, and was still happy.
Paul, Jackie, Devin, Savannah, and myself all took rides on the mechanical bull. Some of us needed help on to the bull, and our rides were short. Totally worth the laughs, pulled muscle, embarrassment, and bruises.
Devin got to go in the Prize Cube {wind tunnel to catch tickets}, plus he got lucky with a jackpot win in the dimecade. He ended up carrying out a sweet skateboard from the redemption counter.
We didn't realize Jackie and Taylor had only been skating a few times combined in their entire lives. They were such good sports, and we were so happy they braved the skating rink with us.
Kyle was totally in his element, and our kids loved every minute of him being there. Sabrina loved how fast Kyle went while she was in the stroller. They were spoiled by his entertainment, cotton candy, lazer lights, etc. And he still has crazy impressive skills while wearing skates.
It was one of those days that you want to bottle it all up so you don't forget how fun it all was. I loved having our brothers there, and Taylor made a quick buddy in Sabrina. Sabrina doesn't fall in love fast and hard, but she did with Taylor.
Even though this day was all for Devin, we definitely all scored!
A few months ago the Bishop asked me to be in charge of our Young Women's girls camp, and to be their sports director too! I laughed when the words came out of his mouth. Uh, I don't camp, we don't even own sleeping bags. I have never played sports, and can't remember the last time I even exercised. I still can't believe I said yes.
I remember thinking that if I wanted the girls to get excited about playing basketball, I needed to be excited about playing too...not just coaching them.
I was so nervous the first week I walked in to that gym to play. I thought I could put on a jersey, be a really good cheerleader, and be that constant player to come so we never had to forfeit.
Something unexpected happened in that gym for me though.
I wanted to learn to play. I wanted to win. I liked the exercise. I fell in love with the women, and had fun being a part of their team.
I am so glad that I had the confidence to try something new, because it gave me new people to love. I honestly can not wait until next season, even though our team will probably look totally different.
Who knew trying something new would be so much fun. Take that confidence!
