our weekend + Summer: day 31

I really don't want to mention who had the stupid idea of going to Trafalga on Saturday {it was mine}. I realize it is free to go with the Pass of All Passes, so I really shouldn't complain. Seriously though, I am pretty sure they could afford to hire a few more employees, and update that place. Disneyland type lines for that run down join...dude, it was bad. I wouldn't mind even paying so that it could be even a slightly better experience. 

After it bombed, and I told Paul I was not waiting in another line for the kids to play Rollerball. We headed straight to Scheel's for the kids to play Rollerball there. No lines, cleaner atmosphere, and the kids always love to see the animals. We totally recovered from Trafalga, thank goodness.

Sunday is probably the hardest day of the week for us. It is a guarantee that Sabrina will be a poop stain at church, and about a month ago Devin decided he doesn't like his class anymore. We are just glad we survive.

We had fun plans this morning with the Brown girls. We decided to go play at the park first thing to beat the heat, and Vanessa brought donuts to eat breakfast there. I love that our kids can all play nicely together. It makes it nice for Vanessa and I, because we can sit back and chat while they all explore.

This week we have so many fun things planned. I am really excited. Bridal Veil Falls, the non-lemonade stand, geocaching with our friends, and it is an Idaho weekend. Should be pretty action packed.

Summer: Day 29 & 30 too.

We had a play date planned to the splash pad yesterday. When we woke up it was overcast, and I wasn't sure that was going to happen. I decided to make "flubber" for the kids to play with in the morning, just in case I had to break the bad news later on.

I have never made "flubber", and it was definitely an adventure. My end result was really good, but just didn't have the same matte looking finish as the pictures I had seen. The kids didn't know how it was suppose to turn out, all was well. It made enough for the 2 of them to have plenty, and then some. We even have played with it today. With the school supplies being so cheap right now, I would definitely stock up on glue to make some other types of "flubber" in the Winter months. {Click here for the recipe + pictures!}

I had forgotten that it was 7/11 yesterday. Thankfully all of my friends don't forget, and start posting pictures to remind me to go and get my free slurpee. Bina even got her very own, which she didn't ever want to give up. 

We decided that rain or shine, we wanted to go and get wet. So, we headed to Highland. It ended up being the perfect overcast day, and the kids didn't even notice when it started to sprinkle. "Cafee" saved the day with her cool half-tent thingy, treats, and drinks. We laughed, got to know Jamie better {she is great, BTW.}, took silly pictures, and did I mention laugh?  I am so glad that we didn't let a little rain stand in our way of going.

Just so everyone knows that things are not always perfect around here, I will tell you about today...day 30. It was mostly just sitting around, playing pretend, laughing at the cats, and watching movies. We danced in the rain this morning, and I cooked some bacon with our breakfast. Which is our kind of fancy. 

I wanted to do this little science project, and was just waiting for Sabrina to go down for her afternoon nap. We prepped everything, and in the time it took me to take Sabrina up the stairs, put her in the crib, and walk down the stairs...Devin had dumped all of our stuff on the ground. To say I was a little mad would be an understatement. Instead of getting to do something fun, we cleaned. 

So, there ya go...things aren't always smooth sailin'. Things happen that make me get mean. Good thing Paul came home, loaded us in the car, and went to find me a treat to help with my grumpiness.

Tomorrow is our family day of fun. We have gone over some ideas, and we may just end up going mini golfing. It has been awhile. We shall see.

a first for everything.

Still almost 9 years later I am still experiencing "firsts" in parenting. If Savannah never did it, Devin most definitely has tried it. With Savannah getting a haircut this week, I should have seen it comin'. You know what I am going to say, right? Devin gave himself a haircut.

I actually couldn't find where he had cut, because he was pointing to the front-side section of his head. He was really proud that he had used the scissors on his hair.

I hurried down to Casey {twice in one week!} to have her cut his hair. As soon as she started to comb, it was really obvious where he had done it. It was bad. It was on the crown of his head, where it already has a problem laying flat.

It wasn't a huge deal, because he is a boy...not that I want him to do it all of the time or anything.

The best part of this experience...

Devin totally fell asleep getting his hair done. We aren't talkin' just a little relaxed, he was doing the head bob. Casey at one point even had to catch him from falling out of the chair. It was definitely entertaining. She had to wake him up when she was done.

He likes to keep me on my toes, good thing he is so darn cute. 

Our play group went to the "beach"

We planned for our play group to go the Herriman Reservoir yesterday. We had already been there without friends, but everything is always more fun with someone to play with.

It was nice that there was a slight breeze happening, because it definitely made all this heat bearable. The water was especially cold, so that was nice too.

I loved the group of ladies that came. It was fun getting to know some of my Facebook friends better, and our kids all got along so well. As I sat there having grown up conversations, the children were playing, and it made me realize why I do these things...it is good for all of us.

Finally getting to do something with Jennifer and Shannon...because we always seem to just bump in to each other at the Library or grocery store!

Jerilee and I left at the same time, and decided to go to Cafe Rio last minute. We may have gotten a few disapproving {or we would like to think we still got it goin' on, and they were loving what they saw} looks while we walked in wearing swimsuits, including our 8 children. 

Thank you ladies for coming, and being such fantastic friends. I am already excited to start planning another play group. Got any fun suggestions? How many of my friends have the Pass of All Passes? Do we dare brave the water park with our kids? 

Can someone also remind me to take group photos?! Gah, I really wasn't good at taking pictures yesterday. Story of my life lately. :)

Summer: day 26 + weekend.

Our weekend was boring. I mean, I would love to say something happened that was exciting...but uh, I can't even remember what we did. It was that fun. :)

We have our big play date at the Herriman Reservoir tomorrow, which means I made the kids do errands and clean today. 

After the kids have visited a couple of lemonade stands in our neighborhood, they got in their heads we need to do one. Today we went to pick up the supplies for the signs. Maybe if I stretch this out over a week, I will be more excited about doing it. I also don't do lemonade, I take the easy way out with cans of soda and bottles of water.

As much as I want Savannah to love long hair so I can do it cute, she really hates it. I am pretty sure she has wanted her hair cut for 6 months. Paul gave her a gift card to go and get her hair cut the way she wanted. She was specific...short, a-line, and no bangs. Casey did exactly what she wanted, and Savannah loved it. She does look adorable, and I will love not having the tears every day when we brush it.

We got to visit with our Lynda, and I am happy that we have a new Instagram user because of it. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures, next time for sure.

Excited to get some sun tomorrow, and hang out with our friends. I may also be avoiding the rest of my housework. :) Will I see you there? Email me if you need the details. 

Summer: Days 21-25

This week I have kind of gone M.I.A. I stopped taking as many pictures, and what is a good blog post without adorable pictures. My point, exactly.

I am going to make this post short and sweet just so I can catch myself up. 

We went to Seven Peaks one day. I took Savannah to the park to watch the big fireworks without the babies for the 4th. We did this experiment {and it worked}.  I bought water balloons, which is always a crowd pleaser, I just wish the balloons would fill themselves. We met Emily for what we decided to call our "loser lunch" to make up for not winning at the Cupcake Wars play date. 

Aaaand just because it was such a big deal in the blogging world...we lost Google Reader this week. I am both overjoyed and slightly lost without it. I feel like I might miss some of my favorite bloggers posts, but I was also following a lot of blogs that I just didn't care for. So, I find myself wasting less time reading stuff that isn't a big deal, which is a bonus. I need to figure out the best solution to this problem without getting sucked in to it all again. You feel me!?

Summer: Day 20 + a getaway weekend

I would complain about the heat wave, but I think enough people have already taken care of that for me. When it is this hot, I really can't function well outside. So, we have had to get creative in our activities.

Friday {Day 20} I braved the movie with the kids by myself. It wasn't as bad as I pictured in my head. We went to Water Gardens in Pleasant Grove. Armed with lots of snacks, we made it through. By the time we went to lunch after and home, I was spent from the heat.

We decided to be spontaneous this weekend, which I love when Paul will play along. Our kids are use to taking "adventures" with Mom, but we usually plan when we are with Dad. 

We woke up, and decided we needed to get out of town. Paul found a few places online in Park City that we may want to stay, and we headed out with our bags packed for the night...with zero plans or reservations. 

When we drove to Main St it turned out we came on the perfect day! They were in the middle of the Park Silly Farmer's Market, and that pretty much sealed the deal of where we were going to stay. We wanted to be close to all the action, and we quickly snatched a room at the Treasure Mountain Inn. 

We loaded everything in the room, took a quick look around, and headed to the market. It turned in to a food eating tour, but that is right up our alley. We tried some strawberry lemonade, home made mango strawberry popsicles, went for pizza, caramel apples, buffalo wings, Coke, Coke, and more Coke. Then I had to try a rice krispy treat drizzled with chocolate/caramel, garlic knots, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers. You get the idea, we ate a lot. lol.

It was still really hot, but turns out that it is at least 10 to 30 degrees cooler in Park City depending the on the time. Another bonus.

We shopped and shopped. Then we were pooped.

When the day was done we broke the rules, and let the kids get in the hot tub. I should have asked so that I knew that no one under 6 was allowed, but whatever...I let Devin anyway. 

The kids stayed up until after 10, which is unheard of. We watched a movie, and the kids played with the new stuff they got.

When we woke up, more eating and shopping happened. It was the perfect little getaway.

Day 21 of Summer we decided to recuperate from our weekend. It is always sad to see a good time come to an end. 

I have a few things planned this week, but most of them consist of staying inside or water.
