After my horrid "Mommy Moments" this weekend, I had some serious making up to do to Van. Paul was surprised by Uncle Shane with Jazz tickets for Saturday night. It was suppose to be just a girls night of fun...and it ended up being Mommy was very grumpy and in pain. =/ I felt bad for Van; she was so disappointed. I took my grumpiness out on her. I know I shouldn't have, but I did.
*side note* If you received a random phone call from Van on Saturday night, I may or may not have given her free reign of my phone numbers. What can I say, I was heavily medicated...and I was trying to make her happy.
So after a ridiculously bad night, I woke up ready to make my Van smile. When I was little, my brother Kyle and I would make lots of forts. It is a very fond memory that I have of my childhood.
When Van woke up I asked her if she wanted to make a fort, and watch a movie. She was sooo confused. How could my 5 year old not know what a fort is? I had to fix this pronto!! We rounded up all the blankets, and I went with the easy way of making a fort with the dining table. I let Van drag my lap top under the table, along with a donut, popcorn, drink, and whatever else she could fit.
Mission accomplished! I made Van smile. It made me smile that she was so happy with such a simple thing. Life is good again...

Jason made fort kits for Jenna and our nephews this year. He bought 2 white sheets, clamps (from the hardware store), clothes line, and suction cup hooks. Jenna has had so much fun with her fort making kit.
That looks so fun!
Oh my kids love doing this. Then I buy them a tent so it is easier and they ignore the tent and still build their own! lol
What a fun mamma! I love making forts still...
You're a great mom to make forts. Once in a while I am a nice mom and let my kids build them. I even built one for George this weekend. BTW, no mom is perfect. That's what Mary Poppins is for. And Michelle, that fort kit sounds like a fab idea!
aww look at that smile :)
Oh! We have those forts and beds going up all over our house ALL the time! It's one of those things that you think will be so fun, but then they just get worn down and start to look ragged. Sort of the like the skinny jean fad. Am I right?
Forts are so much fun! I remember making them when I was little. I will have to help my little boy make one soon.
I'm sure I have too many bad mommy moments and not enough fort moments. My kids love forts and I don't do it with them NEARLY enough! Look how happy she is in there!
I've had my days too...thanks for the reminder that I'm not alone.
Forts! Man I miss being a kid... in some ways.=)
Forts are the best! My 12 year old still makes forts out of our couch pillows.
I love forts!! They were the highlight of my childhood.
I wish I could create more patience in myself to not have so many 'bad mommy moments'.
We LOVE forts in our house! We make them even when Lydia is sleeping.
