Totally worth it. Come to a couponing class with me and my sister!!! We went to one once and learned a ton. Now my sister always uses coups.
Our class was from someone at http://savvyshopperdeals.com/, and we also use coupons.com.
Tips they gave us:
There are different types of coupons - newspaper and print outs are the standards, but there are also catalina coupons (these print out on the back of receipts, Kmart is a good example of this) and beer coupons (sounds funny but you browse the beer isle and they will leave these lying around there. Sometimes they are awesome deals like $20 off a pair of jeans, or whatever. They aren't really coupons for BUYING beer. They're just weird coupons in weird places).
1)organize your coups. Our lady had a binder with plastic baseball organizer thingies (don't you love how technical I am?). She then separated them by type - cleaning, baby, beauty, health, and by the expiration dates so she'd know when she needs to use them.
2) You don't have to use all your coupons! Write a shopping list, and if you have any coupons for those products, pull them out of your binder and take them with you. That way you have them right there, easy to use.
3) "stack" your coupons. A lot of stores allow "stacking" where you can use multiple deals or coupons for one item. It is possible to get things for FREE and it's possible to have the store OWE YOU money.
4) our lady had a "only buy on sale" rule. So she'd have a coupon but would wait for the item to go on sale too - for additional savings. She told us in the class that she saves $300 a month by using coupons.
I hope I didn't bore you. Seriously look into a coupon class. If you're serious about doing it, it's worth it. And I'd totally go with you!
I ♥ couponing! Go to a class. I've never been, but hear they are amazing. Also, savvyshopperdeals.com is the bomb! And, I have a couponizer and love it, but you definitely need an organizer, even if it's just a binder with separaters in it. I use so many more coupons when I use my organizer.
I read a study yesterday, that said that the average family who coupons, across the board (income, race, religion, etc.), spends 10 hours a week couponing, to save $50 or less. I thought that was interesting.
If I had the time, I would do it, but personally, my time is worth more than $5 an hour.
I would love to do coupons but we mainly shop the outside of the store (fruits, vegs, milk, cheese meats). I never find coupons for stuff we use. Or I have to buy 3 boxes of cereal to save $1. I would love to but I just have never found the right ones.
Check out www.freebies2deals.com. She tells you what the best deals are at the time. She also has links to couponing advice. I try hard, I do the best I can. I cut the coupons but I just don't have the time to go to four different stores and I honestly rarely go to a grocery store, we mostly shop Costco. Good luck!!
Totally worth it if you have the time and energy to devote to it. I did it for a summer and now it kills me to pay full price for anything... I really need to get back into it.
I went to a coupon class right after Andrew was born, I'm getting 4 weekend newspapers, I paid $100 to get all 4 (there was an AWESOME deal on papers, AFTER I had already paid) it was $20 per paper per year. Money I've saved so far??? NOTHIN. I'm going to either host a coupon class and have her stay after and tell me what I'm doing wrong or go to another one and take notes. Because I know I still had "pregnant brain" when I went to the first one. Let's be honest, 10 weeks later, I'm still suffering from it... bargaindivas.com is a good resource....
Once I read all these tips telling me good ideas on how to do it (order 5 subscriptions to the newspaper, file my coupons, shop at 5 different stores) and realized it sounded like a huge pain in the booty! I don't even have 5 different stores in the tiny town I live in. So if you get any other awesome advice and figure it all out, I'd love to try it!
I do coupons sometimes, but I don't have time to go to 4 different stores, either. I'm also not one to buy something I would never normally buy just because it's on a great sale. I will check the coupon websites for deals on stuff we need, but if not I don't worry about it.
I don't "coupon" a lot. But I do price match at walmart. It usually takes me about 30 minutes of looking through the sale ads. And I typically save about 20 dollars.
I have been meaning to tell you. If you decide to do it and ever have any questions, let me know. I am totally addicted!! I LOVE getting cheap and free stuff!! Hope all is well with you and your fam!!
