is life just a popularity contest?

Remember when you were in high school, and it was just a BIG popularity contest. Did anyone ever tell you that once you get out of high school it isn't that way? I am finding out 10 years after high school that it still is just a BIG popularity contest.
I hated high school. I knew a lot of people, but I wasn't friends with a lot a people. I hate when people are fake, it might just be my biggest pet peeve. If you are my friend, you know it. If I don't get along with you, I don't pretend to.
Have you ever put yourself out there and said hi to someone you know, and the person pretends they either don't see you or they don't know you? Or in one setting someone acts like your best friend, and in another setting that same person acts like you have never met. If you see me in the grocery store and won't say hi, then please don't pretend to be my friend at church. =)
Why as adults are we afraid of being who we really are, because we might not fit in? Why do we have to be so judgemental of one another?
