My Blog Spark must have known that I needed a little reminder that reading with Van often is important. Van loves to read. She has a little stack of books that she hides under her blanket in her bed, and a tiny little flash light. I have caught her numerous times way after bed time reading to herself by the glow of her flash light.I am guilty of buying a box of cereal based on the prize inside. I love when it isn't just another plastic toy. I think that Cheerios came up with an excellent idea of giving out children's books...that is something that we can never have enough of. They estimate they will hand out 6 million story books!
When I received my box on Cheerios I also fell in love with the fact that you can actually see the book you are getting, so you don't duplicate. Of course Van quickly gathered all the books in our package, and ran to put them under her blanket.
I was also provided by My Blog Spark a $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble. I'm telling you Van is going to have one outstanding 5th birthday. I have a list of books that I have been wanting to get for her which include...
Where the Wild Things Are has gotten so much press with the new movie, I decided it was time to introduce Van to this story. I remember reading it, but honestly it has been too long to even know what the story was about.
My personal favorite growing up was The Rainbow Fish. I still can't believe it's not in our collection, it is a must have! =)

My favorite ones to read to my kids and my personal favorites are "if you give a mouse a cookie" and "If you give a pig a pancake" Love those books.
For each of the boys I got them their own copy of the story "The going to bed book". We all love it. Now I need one for our little girl.:)
I loved "There's a Monster at the End of This Book." It always cracked me up when I was little.
I have always loved The Sneetches by Dr. Seuss.

I had a lot of favorite books growing up but I really loved, "The Stinky Cheeseman" my grandpa used to read it to us.
My favorite book doesn't fall into the "story book" category but it's always been To Kill a Mockingbird. I've loved that book since 8th grade.

I can honestly say I don't remember being read to as a child...... But at our house we LOVE LOVE LOVE Goodnight Moon, Love You Forever, Oh The Places You'll Go, and most recently Junie B Jones...... Today is my lucky day so far so let's go for two in a row!!!
I read. A lot. And I am trying to get my daughter to like reading as much as I do! This would be awesome.
Anyway, my favorite 'childhood' book was Where The Wild Things Are, but since you already mentioned that, my second favorite was probably The B.F.G.
I loved Each Peach Pear Plum as a kid. Now I love Parts by Tedd Arnold. So funny!
We love the "If you give a mouse/moose a..." books- Especially "If You Give A Mouse a Cookie". I loved the 'Francis' books as a kid- and Roald Dahl books. Rainbow fish gets read a lot at our house, too :). We are reading a lot of Disney Princess books right now, though.
hmmm... I tried to comment earlier and it's not here :( anyway, as a child my favorite book was the velveteen rabbit, I thought it was so magical!!
BUT... now as a teacher, I love the Fancy Nancy books. If you have not introduced Van to these darling books, you absolutely MUST! Van is totally Fancy Nancy.
I could certainly use the gift card though, I spend HUNDREDS of dollars each year on books!

I always loved where the wild things are, but my absolute favorite growing up was Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.
My favorite children's book of all time was always "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" I remember my third grade teacher reading it and just loving it. I would read it to my class each year too.
Then the movie came out and sucked all the goodness and magic out of the story.
One of my favs was Caps for Sale. I just found it last year and I have been waiting to give it to my girls (they were going through a book ruining time for a bit). I think I may pull it out and wrap it up for Christmas.
My favorite book growing up was "Love You Forever" and one about a double decker double decker bus (? can't remember the name). Andy has a book now called "I Love you Stinky Face" and I love reading it to him.
Andy's preschool teacher read "The Rainbow Fish" to them today and they made a rainbow fish, and I am so anxious to read it now! I Love reading to my boys!
My favorite story book was Heidi by Johanna Spyri! I remembered I could read it again and again...
I'm not opposed to receiving a fun package! We love the pigeon books from Mo Willems!

I'm lucky that I get to read 1 or 2 different kids books everyday. I love anything by Robert Munsch - he wrote I Love You Forever. Did you know that Rainbow Fish has 2 sequels? I looked at them at B&N - but alas, I was on a mission to get a list of other books. I will get the one where he goes to the deep sea - it's so cool. OK, my favorite book at this moment - Can You Make A Scary Face - if you want to see a kid have fun with a book, this is the one. I love a lot of different books. But the ones I love to read with the kiddos are: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Chicka Chicka 123. Alex likes to say the numbers and letters and I love the sing-song rhyme
