Oquirrh Mountain Temple

I am not a very religious person. I attend church every week, pray, have faith, but I don't vocalize it. I was a little hesitant to do volunteer work at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house. I am proud of my religion, but when it comes to "religion talk", I am a bit shy...and doing volunteer work AT THE LDS TEMPLE, I thought I just might have to answer a few questions. Scary!
The night before I actually debated whether to just no show. *gasp* That really is so not like me, but I tried to justify my thoughts. I woke up way too early for me...5:27 A.M. to be exact. I was so exhausted, but had a smile on my face.
I knew I was in the right place when the older gentleman came in to "train" us. He was so excited to serve, and it was inspiring. He had the best attitude, and couldn't wait for the 17,000 visitors that were expected that day.
My job was passing out Kneaders cookies, and bottled water. It was fun, and guess what? I didn't have to answer one question about religion.
I got to enjoy the beauty of this gorgeous building, meet new people, and do some good in my little world.
*sidenote - I loved how some of my pictures turned out with the deep blue sky. Doesn't it look fantastic with the contrasting white temple?

I felt the same way! Luckily I was right outside the door where they came out of the temple and the only questions I got asked were "Can we take pictures?" and "Where are the bathrooms?".

Good job serving! I was supposed to be a volunteer in May, and I even took the day off, and then they cancelled on me... and I've not had time since then. BUT I was able to go on the tour and I loved it... I even think I would consider getting married there if I ever actually get married... it's beautiful!

I almost passed out at the Draper temple. They had me on the bus, reading the script, standing up on a moving bus with no air!

I wish it was being dedicated before we moved! But I guess maybe now we'll have to make a special trip back to Utah to come and do a session. You're so awesome for volunteering!

Good for you! I volunteered at our temple in Portland, OR and it was intimidating at first but I grew to love it when I became more comfortable!
